Message From the Director

Thank you so very much those of you who have contributed towards the development of our institutions as well as those who are considering to do so in the future.

Ours is an institution that stands out as a beacon of hope to so many children from our community who otherwise would not have had an opportunity to access either basic primary or high school education.

It was never easy to reach where we are today. A journey that started in 1997, it was painstakingly slow until the year 2003 when we met Lorna Waddington (an early sponsor from the United Kingdom) through Alliance for Youth Achievement (AYA), a U.S.-based nonprofit.

At this point we had only a few children who were sponsored through AYA, but thanks to the efforts of early sponsors such as Lorna, Holly, Brenda, and others a big number of children were sponsored and so Galilee started growing. The growth has been fast.  Our first standard 8 pupils sat for their KCPE exams in 2004 and they performed very well. Sensing the danger of many of them failing to advance to high school due to lack of school fees, sponsors came together and as a result Lorna Waddington High school was born.

The high school came as a savior for many of our children who had performed so well in their KCPE in 2004.  They kept their hard working spirit for the next four years.  In 2008, they did their KCSE and most of them performed so well that 11 of them joined the university on the Government aided program but we had 37 students in total who qualified for university if only they were able to join as self-sponsored. In the years that followed we had a very big number of students doing very well in their KCSE and joining universities and colleges. This year we are having our ninth form four class and many of them are very promising.

As we have been educating these children many have gotten to a situation where by they don't have a roof over their heads and these include the orphans with nobody to turn to and those abandoned by their families due to the hard economic times.  The bigger the population of children coming to our school the more these cases arise.  Thanks to the efforts the sponsors are putting into helping our schools we are able today to take care of more than 100 needy children at the Holly House orphanages on our campus.  These are children we feed, educate, treat when they fall sick, and give shelter every day.

In summary, Galilee and Lorna Waddington schools are a great blessing to the children and the Kayole Soweto community in general.  By educating these children we are step by step breaking the cycles of poverty.

As you are reading these few lines I have written, probably you are a caring person with a heart of passion for helping children in need.  You are very much welcome to join this group of hard working individuals in making a big difference in the lives of our needy children.

Thank you so very much for taking time to visit this site, for this is the only window through which you can know about us and learn more about our programs.

God bless,

FANUEL OKWARO
